The Clongowes’ 5km/10km Fun Run will be held at Clongowes Wood College SJ on Saturday the 21st of March at 11.30 am. This event is part of the Transition Year Duck Push Project which has raised over €2million for Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital (now known as CMRF). The project is in its 28th year and all proceeds from the Fun Run go towards the purchase of much needed medical equipment for the Hospital.
This is a fantastic opportunity to see the beautiful and historic grounds of Clongowes Wood College SJ. The route will take you across The Pale, through the forest and into the historic 19th Century Pleasure Grounds as well as around the 18th Century Formal Walled Garden. We welcome athletes of all levels as well as those who wish to enjoy a brisk walk through the grounds.
There will be a ‘goodie bag’ with fruit, water and a snack for each participant as well as a well-earned cup of tea/coffee in the Refectory afterwards.
Last year’s inaugural Clongowes’ Fun Run proved very popular with people of all ages and levels of fitness. We hope to see as many people as possible turn out for what promises to be a wonderful morning with family and friends – all for a very good cause.

Transition Year Duck Push
The students at Clongowes first started pushing ducks along the 200km route from Dublin to Limerick in 1994 to raise funds for life-saving medical equipment for Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital and have raised over €2million to date. Equipment purchased has included portable ultrasound machines, and Ocular Coherence Tomography Machine for the Eye Department, a Getinge Autoclave for the Microbiology Laboratory and a Sepak Tissue Processor to help children who need bone marrow transplants.
Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital provides care for some of Ireland’s sickest children and taking part in the Duck Push is an essential part of the Transition Year programme in Clongowes and the culmination of a year’s hard work. Before pushing the ducks across the country, the students will already have raised money through a variety of activities ranging from mini-companies and pop-up cafes to coffee mornings, barbecues and a Golf Classic in the K Club.
